3 Identify each as a monomial, binomial or trinomial.  Monomial is one term with no addition or subtraction  Binomial is two monomials  Trinomial is three monomials 1. 8 monomial 2. 7x²m³ monomial 3. 9a + 6b – c binomial

4 Degree of a polynomial  Find the number of variables in each monomial of the entire term.  The degree is the most amount of letters found. 1.5x First 2. 9z 5 b 6 + a 9 Eleventh 3. g 7 + g 8 – g 6 h 2 Eighth

5 Add/Subtract polynomials  Put monomials that have the same letter and the same exponent in the same groups.  Add or subtract the coefficients.  Do not add the exponents.

6 Examples of Addition/Subtraction 1.(f² + 4f – 1) + (2f² - 3f + 2) 3f 2 + f + 1 2. (9x + 5) – (2x – 4) 7x + 9 3. 5 + 2a + 3a² - a + 6 3a 2 + a + 11

7 Multiply Polynomials  Use Distributive Property  Multiply each part of the problem to be fair in your mathematics.  Binomials may be solved using FOIL, distributive, box and column methods.  Exponents change when you multiply.
