Newton’s Laws Introduction Objectives: Students will take a pre-assessment to demonstrate prior knowledge of Newton’s Laws vocabulary. Students will design and conduct an experiment to explore an introduction to Newton’s Laws. WARM UP: Who was Isaac Newton? What do you know about him?

Before we begin our topic of study on Newton’s Laws we will take a pre test. This is only to find out what you already know.

After conducting our own experiment using a tennis ball dropped from different heights, lets took a look at different objects dropped from different heights. What prediction can you make about dropping a penny from the Empire State building?

FREE FALLING! The goal of this activity is to determine the acceleration of a tennis ball due to gravity. Today you will be designing your own lab experiment. You will design a test in which you will measure the motion of a tennis ball to record distance over time for several heights. Step 1: Sketch a design of your lab experiment Step 2: Get your lab sketch approved Step 3: Determine the heights from which you will drop the tennis ball. Fill in the table Step 4: Conduct your test and record the results of the ball dropped from different distances

Groups/ Job Responsibilities Timer: Use a Device or A Stop Watch to track how long it takes the tennis ball to hit the ground once released from your groups chosen height. Recorder: Record data for your lab group Material Manager: Drop the ball from chosen height. Measurer: Responsible for measurements (1 or 2 per group). Discovery Education Virtual Lab

Who was Newton anyway?

Newton’s Laws Vocabulary Activities Choose from any of the following to practice Newton’s Laws vocabulary and record your score on your score tracking sheet. QUIZLETQUIZLET : Mr. Herbert Newton’s Laws or SocrativeSocrative: Room name JHerbert
