2 Comparison of Fixed and Variable MCS for USCCH MCS distribution investigation –Users are randomly chosen one by one based on EMD cell geography. –Given a fixed amount power budget (denoted by P) and bandwidth budget (denoted by B), perform exhaustive search to accommodate the maximal user-specific control channels by assigning different MCSs and power adjustment to each users. –Examine the MCS distribution of the allocated users. Capacity investigation –Simulate and compare the control channel capacity using variable MCS and fixed MCS.

3 Simulation Setup Frequency reuse 1 scenario is considered Users are randomly chosen based on EMD baseline cell geography No more than 9 out 48 (B=18.75%) distributed LRUs are allowed 48 bits modulated and coded with QPSK ½ and CC. Modulated symbols are allocated to all 6 symbols of a subframe. The frequency occupation depends on the repetition factor. 2x2 antenna SFBC setup with MMSE channel estimation and MMSE MIMO receiver Channel model is eITU-Veh A at 120 km/hr SINR required for 1% PER is 2.5 dB, -0.6 dB, -3.4 dB, -4.6676 dB, for QPSK ½, rep 2, rep 4, rep 6 respectively 3 dB implementation loss and link adaptation margin is assumed Power boosting penalty is modeled and included Pilot vs. data tone boosting is 5 dB

4 What’s Not Covered in the Simulation The simulation is not system level simulation. It does not have a scheduler and any data traffic. Power boosting of control channels can change interference property to other cell. The impact due to interference change is not simulated.

5 MCS Distribution Investigation Power boosting scenario Power budget, P (BW budget=18.75%) 1 18.75% of total power 2 37.5% of total power 3 56.25% of total power 4 75% of total power 5 93.75% of total power

6 Control Channel Capacity Power boosting scenario Power budget, P (BW budget = 18.75%) 1 18.75% of total power 2 37.5% of total power 3 56.25% of total power 4 75% of total power 5 93.75% of total power
