2 How its made Turquoise is formed over a time of years by a chemical reaction that occurs when water meets rocks which contain with the specific minerals copper and aluminum. The percentage of the minerals in the rock dictate the shade of the turquoise. CuAl6(PO4)4(OH)8·4H2O

3 History of Turquoise The word Turquoise is from the Greek word "Turkois" meaning "Turkish" because it was first brought from Turkey. In ancient times, it was known as Turkis, or Turkeystone In Ancient Mayan culture no one was allowed to wear or own turquoise because it was reserved as an offering to the gods

9 Locations and mines American turquoise is considered the finest of all. Mines are mostly located in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Nevada, and Colorado. Nevada is the most common place to mine Turquoise.
