Brompton Cycle Route Food Lesson 4 Learning objectives: To improve your modelling skills with your chosen materials. To be able to identify design problems in your work. To be able to work efficiently and independently using your production plan (Gantt Chart) as a guide. Homework: Solve your design problem with annotated drawings.

What makes good design? Extension task: Think about the quote below... Do you agree? Why? “Form follows function – that has been misunderstood. Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union.” Frank Lloyd Wright Are these kettles both examples of good design? Why?

Project overview To design, make and evaluate a product suitable for use with a Brompton bicycle. 123456 IntroductionDesigningPlanning & Making Evaluation WE ARE HERE Lesson 4: Making Today we will be… Discussing design issues – form vs. function Identifying any problems with your design Improving our modelling skills Developing our designs and progressing with making

unique everyone fold/unfold independence freedom ease of use practicality compactness Developing design ideas As you work on your final model don’t be afraid to develop your idea to make it better! You can still make changes until you are finished – just keep an eye on the time! Think about: aesthetics, function, taste, cost, ingredients, target market…

Design challenge! Look at your design…think about one problem you have with it, or one problem the end user may have with it. Make a note of the problem. At the beginning of the lesson today, you were shown an example of two kettles and you discussed the issues about their designs. Some of the issues were about technical problems with their design.

Homework – Design challenge! Design a solution to the problem you identified. Produce clearly annotated drawings showing how you will overcome the problem. unique everyone fold/unfold independence freedom ease of use practicality compactness
