LA: Distinguish between qualitative and quantitative data, and represent each type graphically., describing each with appropriate terms orally and in writing. LA: Distinguish between Hypothesis and Theory and practice writing each. Agenda: Icebreaker – name review Do Now - Data work in groups

3 Quantitative Data – pg 12 BBB Look at the Do Now questions. Which uses Quantitative data? How can we work with this type of data? Represent our class data graphically. Now, write a new question that can be answered using Quantitative data. Be sure you have shown all measures of central tendency for the class data. Show and label the mean, median, range, and mode. (BBB R14)

5 Qualitative Data – pg 12 BBB Look at the Do Now questions. Which uses Qualitative data? How can we work with this type of data? Represent our class data graphically. Now, write a new question that can be answered using Qualitative data. Write at least 3 statements about our class data. There are many possible ways to represent this type of data. (BBB R15-17 as examples)

7 BBB/Interactive Reader 1.3 Scientific Thinking In your notes, sketch a flow chart that explains the process of scientific thinking and inquiry. Hypothesis vs Theory In your notes, compare and contrast hypothesis and theory. Write a sample hypothesis about a student behavior, and a sample theory that explains a student behavior.
