1 Cancer Moonshot

2 Purpose "The National Cancer Moonshot will work to accelerate these research efforts and break down barriers to progress by enhancing data access, and facilitating collaborations with researchers, doctors, philanthropies, patients, and patient advocates, and biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. The initiative aims to bring about a decade’s worth of advances in five years, making more therapies available to more patients, while also improving our ability to prevent cancer and detect it at an early stage." Bottom line: this is about funding research, but the whole oncology ecosystem will be affected

3 Priorities Prevention and Cancer Vaccine Development Early Cancer Detection Cancer Immunotherapy and Combination Therapy Genomic Analysis of Tumor and Surrounding Cells Enhanced Data Sharing Oncology Center of Excellence Pediatric Cancer

8 Implications of Moonshot for ONS Members Nurse Researchers ONS is advocating for equitable access to research fund Goal is to have at least one nurse researcher on each working group Members in clinical care delivery “making more therapies available to more patients, while also improving our ability to prevent cancer and detect it at an early stage” Knowledge needed by oncology nurses Increased clinical trials
