2 HISTORY On February 16 th 1815 the war of 1812 ended, this had a tremendous impact on the world and society’s. Now changing and re inventing are morals and views. There was a tariff brought into the economy on January 1 st 1816. this raised rates to 20% for cheap goods, this happed because of the people of new England couldn’t keep up with the new low prices. May 30 th 1830 was the Indian removal act. This was because white settlers wanted to expand onto land owned my 5 Indian tribes. Leaving the tribs with no choice but to remove themselves from the land Presidential convention was held in Pennsylvania in December of 1839, this is still known as the first national whig party of the united states.

4 WOMAN’S FASHION After 1815 the fashion for woman changed drastically as the dresses became fuller and the waist line eventually became natural.

5 WOMAN’S FASHION CONTINUED... Girls fussed and cared more on how they looked, so the dresses we now more “decorative”. We saw the return of layering petticoats and serve corseting now as well to be portrayed as delicate and fragile women.

6 WOMEN’S SOCIAL, PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL Women were now starting to dress like this because of the way men and society looked at woman. Woman became the weaker role and more sensitive for this reason woman decided to dress more light and delicate.. Social Woman dressed more appropriate for house work, child care and clothing that is more washable. Woman also started to ware flat shoes so that they could attend balls and dance while feeling comfortable. Physical Woman wanted to appeal to men and children they wanted stand out to men but look more comforting to children. Also woman wanted to dress as is they wealthy to not be put down by the men in society psychological

7 SOCIAL CONTINUED… These woman were also looked up to almost like guardians as well as care givers and educators so their style became more professional and less up front and forward. Unlike pervious years

9 CHARACTERISTICS Characteristics in the 18 th century continued on into the 19 th century and the more classical influence was adopted by the society

10 ACCESSORIES More decorative shoes These styles we accompanied by large accessories including long sleeves and hats and more dramatic hair styles for woman Poufy sleeves

11 HATS! During the romantic era hats became the huge accessories to go with any occasion, but theses hat were not your usual everyday hat.

12 Theses hat were extravagant with feathers, fur bows, ribbon even berries and leaves were traditional

13 Theses hats were very detailed large and colourful perfect for just about anything.

14 SHOES! At this time shoes become slightly more decorative and colourful (not as much as the hats). Shoes now were made more for balls and party's rather then everyday use. Just about every woman was walking around in their fancy new flats.

15 They added more colour… This style of shoe was now easy to dance and be comfortable in at the same time They also added more material…

16 PUFFED PRINCESS SLEEVES!!!! Woman wore fuller and puffed out sleeves to make them more distinguished and confidants they walked tall and strong with the help of these sleeves. They felt this because it contrasted their silhouettes to make them look narrower.

20 Basque ~ is an item of woman's clothing usually a bodice or jacket Stays~ similar to a corset Gilet corsage ~ a small bouquet worn on the waist, wrist and or shoulder

21 MEN’S FASHION Men in the romantic era started to dress more professional by waring their own version of suits. They wore more complicated outfit with many pieces. They wanted to be looked up to and be the main point of the society, main role in life for the family. They wore more layers including many over coats, blouses and vests. The coats were longer and called tail coats or frock coats.

22 MEN’S SOCIAL, PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL Social Men dressed liked this to show that they were the more stronger and more powerful role through out society unlike the woman. Dressing more professional gave them this look of power. physical psychological They wanted to show off their bodies and look broader to make the social reasons look true so they wore layers and even waist slimers. They would also wear shoes to address the day they would have. In this time era they would spend much of their time out in about so the men dressed for the weather and comfort. Most people also dressed for who they would see as in, if there was a special event they were attending.
