1 Environmental Issues Chapter 14 -Students will compare and contrast renewable and nonrenewable resources. -Students will apply their knowledge of natural resources and environmental issues to devise some conservation plans.

3 Environmental Issues Environmental Issues fall into 3 categories: Environmental Issues fall into 3 categories: -Resource Use -Population Growth -Pollution: contamination of Earth’s land, water, or air

4 Resources Natural Resource: anything in the environment used by people Natural Resource: anything in the environment used by people -Can’t be man-made

5 Types of Resources Renewable Resource: a resource that is always available or naturally replaced in a relatively short time Renewable Resource: a resource that is always available or naturally replaced in a relatively short time

6 Types of Resources Nonrenewable Resource: natural resources that are not replaced in a useful time frame Nonrenewable Resource: natural resources that are not replaced in a useful time frame

7 Environmental Decisions -Decisions can be made on a personal, local, national, or global level. -To balance differing opinions on an issue, weigh the costs and benefits.
