1 The working memory model essay: top 3 mistakes which did you make? 1.Not saying what the studies show just what they found 2.Getting the details of the studies wrong 3.Saying a study lacks ecological validity without saying why

2 1. Not saying what the studies show just what they found Phonological Loop research The word length effect = supports duration of the phono loop being approx 2 seconds Similarity of sound = suggests that the method of encoding in the loop is phonological (auditory) Articulatory suppression = shows that blocking the articulatory rehearsal process means that information decays in the phono loop (which is why ppts cant remember what they read) Hunt’s study = shows that the central exec has a limited capacity Baddeley’s dual task study = shows that 2 separate components in STM exist, one for verbal information and one for visuo=spatial

3 2. Getting the details of the studies wrong Baddeley = did a dual task study on the VSS and PL Task 1 = vis tracking task (VSS) and angles in letter F (VSS) Task 2 = vis tracking task (VSS) and verb task (PL) Hunt = did not do a study on the sub – components it was only a study on the Central Executive Lever between 2 posts with thumb and index finger and completed a spatial intelligence task of spatial patterns

4 3. Saying a study lacks ecological validity without saying why Because it’s not representative of memory in everyday life because the tasks are not like what people do in real life ANYTHING LIKE THIS WILL DO!!!
