3 O THER INFORMATION Tutorials: Tuesdays and Thursdays Or by appointment Materials needed: Pencil with eraser, and a notebook Other materials not required: A graphing calculator is highly recommended in this class. If you have a graphing calculator app on your phone or tablet, that will work.

4 O THER INFORMATION Grading: Reading Assignment: 5% Daily (classwork, homework, quizzes): 35% Tests: 60% Classroom Rules: 1) Be to class and prepared to work before the bell rings 2) Be respectful to your teachers and classmates (No foul language, do not talk while I am talking, keep your hands, feet and all belongings in your own personal space, do not hurt others’ feelings) 3) Do not mistreat school property 4) Take charge of your future and enjoy math!

5 W HAT I S S TATISTICS ? Statistics is the science of data... Data are numbers with a context. We will study four major themes this year: Describing Data - Graphical and Numerical Analysis Collecting Data - Surveys, Studies, and Experiments Probability - The Study of Chance Behavior Inference - Making Conclusions Based on Data

6 T HE AP E XAM I will be preparing you for the Advanced Placement Statistics Exam. 3 hours -- 40 Multiple Choice Questions, 6 Free- Response Questions (#6 is a bigger “Investigative Task”) You CAN be successful on this exam IF you put forth the effort ALL YEAR LONG. I will provide you with A LOT of preparation materials as well as insight from the grading of the exam. I need you to provide the effort...

7 W HAT DO YOU N EED ? You will need the following items for this course: Graphing Calculator - Required ( TI84+ ) Notebook paper, college-ruled Binder - 1.5” for tables, handouts, notes, etc. Pencil, pen, highlighter Strong work ethic and a willingness to ask for help! Commitment … there is a lot of work!

10 S YLLABUS -E XPECTATIONS My goal is for you to understand Statistics and how it plays a role in your current and future life. My hope is you will be successful in the course and earn a passing score on the AP Exam. My expectation is that you will put forth the effort necessary to be successful in a college-level course.
