WEATHER AND CLIMATE Chapter 2

WEATHER AND CLIMATE  Weather-State of constant change. Day to Day  Climate- Placed over a longer period of time.

SUN AND EARTH  Greenhouse Effect- Radiation reflects off the surface and traps between the atmosphere.  Rotation takes 24 hours. Revolution takes 365 days.  Climate is affected by latitude zones.

DISTRIBUTING THE SUN’S HEAT  Convection- Transfer of heat from one place to another.  Wind- Rising warm air= low pressure. Falling cool air= high pressure.  Wind and currents work together to transfer heat.

PRECIPITATION  Occurs when more water collects in clouds than they can hold.  Three different types- Convectional, Orographic, and Frontal

OTHER INFLUENCES  Bodies of Water- Wind will blow the temperature of the water on the shore.  Elevation- High elevation will remain colder no matter where it is.  Landforms- Closed off areas have different climates than open areas.

WORLD CLIMATE REGIONS  Refer to page 72 chart

CHANGING CLIMATES  Global Warming- Partially melt ice caps, cause water levels to rise.  Also where there is more people could possibly make a place warmer.
