2  The Capital of Spain is Madrid.  The bordering countries are France, Portugal, and a place called Andorra.  The Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea are bordering it.  The highest mountain is Mount Pico de Teide, which is a volcano. It reaches 3,718m high, which is almost half Mount Everest’s height.  The Tagus is the longest river is Spain and runs into Portugal as well. It is 1038km long, and 716km of it is in Spain.  The Largest port in Spain is the port of Valencia, and is also the 5 th busiest seaport in Europe. 4  There is a traditional dress below.  Another traditional dress knows as the Mantilla, is a dress with a veil, usually worn at weddings or other special events. La Tomatina is an annual event occurring on the last Wednesday of August, where everybody throws tomatoes at each other. La Tomatina is held in a town called Buñol outside of Valencia. Where the population of Buñol is only 9,000, around 20,000 people from around the world participate in the event. In 2013, there were around 50,000 participants, so the Spanish made sure that only 20,000 people could partake in the fun. tradicion

6 Antonio Valdés y Bazán drew 12 different designs for naval flags for King Charles III. King Charles chose what is now the Spanish flag in 1785. The flag could be found in naval ports, ships and naval fortresses, and was only officially declared as the Spanish flag in 1843 by Queen Isabella II. El bandera

7 The most popular sport in Spain is football. But there are also a lot of famous Tennis players in Spain. Lots of Spanish people are athletic so a lot of variety of sports is played commonly, like basketball and volleyball. There are lots of horses in Spain as well, so lots of sports including horses are found there. Another sport famous throughout Spain is Bullfighting. Wind surfing is popular in Spain as well. 8 In Spain, a very traditional thing in bullfights, in which fancy- dressed men will taunt bulls with red sheets. The bulls will get irritated and chase them, and the men will either try to escape or fight the bull and sometimes stick a sword into its back, as shown below. Recently there have been discussions on whether bullfights should continue, as it is inhumane. Another famous Spanish tradition with bulls is the bull run. Lots of people crowd in the streets, and release the bulls in with them. The people will attempt to outrun the crowd of bulls throughout the streets until the bulls run all the way into the bullring on the other side of town. Sometimes a bull catches someone, which is very unfortunate and painful, but most of the runners make it, since of course there is a lot of them. Corridas de toros

10 25 th June 1852 – 10 th June 1926 Goudi was a very famous artist who is known for continuing the construction of the Sagrada Familia cathedral in Barcelona. Because of its highly complex design, it has currently been under construction for about 130 years, and is still only expected to be done in 2026. When Antonio Gaudi was younger, he dressed smartly and ate nice foods, but as he got older, he hardly cared about his appearance and devoted his life to art and his cathedral. He stayed single his whole life and was a vegetarian since a young age. He died when he was hit my a tram in 1926, and since he looked like a beggar, was not given immediate treatment. He died three days later. Some of his other art include Casa Mila, Casa Batllo, Park Guell and many others.

11 Leonardo Torres y Quevedo invented the first video game. It was called “ajedrecist.” It was a robotic chess, as Leonardo was very good at chess. As well as inventing a video game, he is said to have invented the first digital calculator.

14 The Lynx is rarely seen by people as it hunts at night. With their incredible sense of hearing and insane eyesight, they’d know if a mouse was 75m away! Lynx are about half the size of humans from their feet to their ears. Lynx hunt squirrels, birds, mice and mostly hare, but the large lynx can sometimes hunt larger prey like deer. lyynx
