Algebra 1 Foundations, pg 187 Focus Question How is solving an inequality with addition or subtraction similar to solving an equation?  You can use the Addition Property to undo subtraction or the Subtraction Property to undo addition until you isolate the variable.  Students will be able to use addition or subtraction to solve inequalities.

Algebra 1 Foundations, pg 184 Equivalent inequalities are inequalities that have the same solutions. You will use the Addition Property of Inequality and the Subtraction Property of Inequality to produce equivalent inequalities.  Students will be able to use addition or subtraction to solve inequalities. To check the solution of an inequality, you need to check at least two values. First, determine if the endpoint is a solution of the related equation. Then, choose and test a value that falls on the shaded part of the number line. If it makes the inequality true, you know you shaded in the correct direction.

Algebra 1 Foundations, pg 187 Solve each inequality. Graph and check your solutions. 1.p – 4 d – 2 3. y + 5 7  Students will be able to use addition or subtraction to solve inequalities.

Algebra 1 Foundations, pg 194 Focus Question How is solving an inequality with multiplication or division similar to solving an equation?  You can use the Multiplication Property to undo division or the Division Property to undo multiplication until you isolate the variable. If there is a fraction in the inequality, you can multiply by its reciprocal.  Students will be able to use addition or subtraction to solve inequalities.

Solve each inequality. Graph and check your solution. 1.3m > 62. 4w < 20 3. -4 x2x2 r3r3

 Students will be able to use addition or subtraction to solve inequalities. Solve each inequality. Graph and check your solution. 1. -2m > 82. -12w < 36 3. -3 x -3 r -2 If you multiply or divide by a negative, you must reverse the inequality sign.

Algebra 1 Foundations, pg 202 Focus Question How is solving a multi-step inequality similar to solving a multi-step equation?  You can use the properties of inequality to isolate the variable.  Students will be able to solve multi-step inequalities. Sometimes solving an inequality gives a statement that is always true, such as 4 > 1. In that case, the solutions are all real numbers. If the statement is never true, as is 9 < - 5, then the inequality has no solution.

Algebra 1 Foundations, pg 202-203  Students will be able to solve multi-step inequalities. 1.7 + 6a > 192. 2(r + 2) > -6 3. 18x – 5 9 – 3w Solve each inequality, if possible. If the inequality has no solution, write no solution. If the solutions are all real numbers, write all real numbers.
