2 Organizations + Campaigns for Change Amnesty International’s global campaign to stop violence against women was launched on International Women’s Day in March 2004.

3 Organizations + Campaigns for Change The campaign focuses on identifying and exposing acts of violence in the home, and in conflict and post conflict situations globally.

4 Organizations + Campaigns for Change It calls on governments, communities and individuals to take action to prevent such acts and provide redress.

5 Organizations + Campaigns for Change Resolution 54/134 of 17 December 1999, the UN General Assembly designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

6 Organizations + Campaigns for Change The UN invited governments, international organizations and NGOs to organize activities designated to raise public awareness of the problem on that day.

7 Organizations + Campaigns for Change Women's activists have marked 25 November as a day against violence since 1981.

8 Organizations + Campaigns for Change In Canada we have 16 Days of Action Against Gender Violence which begins on November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and ends on December 10 (International Human Rights Day).

9 Organizations + Campaigns for Change Within these 16 days, on December 6, we have the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women + Girls (The commemoration of the Montreal Massacre/White Ribbon Day).

15 Organizations + Campaigns for Change The Ending Violence Association of British Columbia (EVA BC) works to coordinate and support the work of victim-serving and other anti-violence programs in British Columbia

16 Organizations + Campaigns for Change Eva does this through the provision of issue- based consultation and analysis, resource development, training, research and education.

20 Organizations + Campaigns for Change For over 35 years, the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre has provided a safe place for women and children in the Downtown Eastside.

21 Organizations + Campaigns for Change They provide practical support, basic necessities and hot nutritious meals to over 300 women and children every day.

22 Organizations + Campaigns for Change They support women to make positive changes in their lives by connecting them to a continuum of services including outreach, advocacy, wellness, recreation, housing and skills development.

23 Organizations + Campaigns for Change UNITE to End Violence Against Women is the UN’s Secretary General, Ban-ki Moon’s, campaign to work together to end violence against women and girls.

24 Organizations + Campaigns for Change Moon has create a Network of Men Leaders – current and former politicians, civil society and youth activists, religious and community leaders, cultural figures and other prominent individuals – to address VAW.

25 Organizations + Campaigns for Change They work in their spheres of influence to undertake specific actions to end violence against women, from raising public awareness, to advocating for adequate laws, to meeting with young men and boys, to holding governments accountable.

26 Organizations + Campaigns for Change The Network supports the work of women around the world to defy destructive stereotypes, embrace equality, and inspire men and boys everywhere to speak out against violence.

27 Organizations + Campaigns for Change Be More Than a Bystander is a groundbreaking initiative between EVA BC and the BC Lions aimed at substantially increasing understanding of the impact of men’s violence against women.

28 Organizations + Campaigns for Change The program will break the silence surrounding violence against women and girls by providing tools, language and practical ideas about how to be more than a bystander, how to speak up and how to communicate that violence and abuse is not acceptable.
