Key Ideas o Most teachers lose 50% of their instructional time because their students get off task. o 80% of students misbehavior is general goofing off. o Teaching time can be saved if teachers can use Jones techniques correctly. o Good classroom discipline results from the first technique, effective body language. o Incentives to motivate students o Help students indvidually

3. Skill Cluster #1: Body Language Good discipline depends on 90% of effective body language.  Eye Contact- the number one most effective use of body language in the classroom. Students take note of this and get back to work.  Physical Space- when a student is off task and notices the teacher nearby they suddenly get back on task.  Posture- students can quickly tell if a teacher is ill, tired, uninterested, or intimidated. Good posture and body language is a sign of strong leadership.  Facial Expression- the tell-tell sign of how the teacher really feels. It can also be put to good use in sending other nonverbal signals.  Gestures-get students attention and point them to the direction of where they need to focus.

4. Skill Cluster #2: Incentive System  Genuine Incentives- letting students almost chose what their reward.  Grandmas Rule-make them finish their task before getting their reward.  Educational Value-giving them activities that are fun and semi sorta follow the lesson.  Group-let students get into groups and chose what they want to learn about. And giving them the time at the end of class  Implementation-chose a system that works best for your class.

5. Skill Cluster #3: Providing Efficient Help Problems with individual help:  Teachers waste too much time with one student  Wasted student time  Misbehavior  Students become dependent
