2 Analysis of “Support worker” question in 2015 Social Care Survey New question was introduced in 2015 Social Care Survey. “Information should be provided on every person during the survey year who as a result of an assessment has an assigned social worker or a support worker who is provided or funded by your local authority.” “Support Worker” includes: Community Care Social Work Mental Health Social Work Substance Misuse Social Work Children with Disabilities Social Work

5 Analysis of “Support worker” question in 2015 Social Care Survey Clients with a support worker were mostly older people and female. This is similar to age-gender breakdown for all social care clients.

6 Clients receiving ONLY a support worker For “new” support worker clients there are a higher proportion of younger adults and males than for “all” support worker clients, although those aged 65+ still make up the majority of cases.

7 Analysis of “Support worker” question in 2015 Social Care Survey Most clients with a support worker fell under the “Frail Older People” or “Physical Disability” client groups.

8 Clients receiving ONLY a support worker Higher proportions of “new” support worker clients were in the “Mental Health” client group. Fewer clients were in the “Frail Older People” and “Physical Disability” client groups, but these were still the two largest categories.

9 Analysis of “Support worker” question in 2015 Social Care Survey Clients with a social worker often received another service. 2 out of 5 clients with a Support Worker also received a Community Alarm / Telecare, 1 in 3 received Home Care and 1 in 4 received SDS.

10 Analysis of “Support worker” question in 2015 Social Care Survey Conclusions: Lots of people with a support worker! There are differences in recording practice and definitions across Local Authorities. Question for discussion: How did you identify people with a support worker? What difficulties (if any) did you encounter in collating this data?
