1 Monday, September 21st Entry Task Schedule: Earth System
Explain how YOU interact with each part of the Earth System Geosphere Biosphere Atmosphere Hydrosphere Schedule: Earth System Objective I can understand and learn more about the spheres that make up Earth’s system Homework: System interactions output- page 18 in notebook Please have on desk: Page 16 in notebook (Q’s 1-6 p.14)

2 We interact and depend on each part of the Earth System

3 The Earth System Label Page 19 “Earth System Foldable
System: an organized group of parts that work together to form a whole. The Earth system has four major parts: Atmosphere Hydrosphere Biosphere Geosphere

4 Atmosphere The mixture of gases and particles that surrounds and protects the surface of Earth. The mixture of gases: Nitrogen (78%) Oxygen (21%) Carbon dioxide, water vapor, and other gases (1%)

5 Hydrosphere Made up of all the water on Earth:
Oceans, lakes, and glaciers Rivers, streams, and underground Water covers 75% of the Earth’s surface 3% is fresh water 70% in glaciers and polar ice

6 Biosphere All life on Earth: in the air on the land in the waters

7 Geosphere All the features on Earth’s surface: Continents Islands
Sea floor Everything below the surface

8 The Earth’s Geosphere crust: thin, rocky shell that includes continents and sea floor mantle: thick layer of hot rock outer core: molten metal, mostly iron inner core: solid metal, mostly iron

9 The Earth System The atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and geosphere work together to form one large system called Earth. geosphere biosphere atmosphere hydrosphere

10 Tuesday, September 22nd Entry Task Schedule: 1.1 Quiz
Share your interactions you created last night (page 18 output) with your neighbor. On your entry task brochure, draw one picture to show how all 4 parts of the Earth system interact at once. Write a brief description for your picture Make sure to label and color. Schedule: 1.1 Quiz Is your phone a cause of war? Objective I can be assessed on the Earth System and how the different parts interact with each other I can understand how using minerals as resources can cause conflict Homework: Finish anything not completed in class Please have on desk: Page 18 in notebook

11 Wednesday, September 23rd
Schedule: 1.1 Quiz Reflection 2.1-Minerals are all around us Entry Task Lets see what you already know about minerals. Decide if the following statements are true or false. If they are true write them out as is. If they are false write out a correct statement. Water and ice are minerals Minerals can be found in rocks Minerals exist as gas, liquid, and solid. Objective I can understand that minerals are basic building blocks of Earth Homework: Finish Vocabulary Wheels and Questions on page 24 in notebook 2.1 Quiz tomorrow Please have on desk: Page 22 in notebook

12 Homework Do all of this on page 24 in your notebook
Do a vocabulary wheel for the 3 vocabulary words in 2.1 Words: mineral, element, crystal Find directions for how to do a vocabulary wheel on page R50 (in the back of the book) Answer questions #2-5 from page 48. Use full sentences, IQIA.

13 Thursday, September 24th Entry Task Make sure everything in your notebook is done. I will be grading them today. Nothing should fall out. All entry task brochures complete and all pages complete. Schedule: Crystal Caves Objective: I can learn about extreme mineral formation Homework Complete page 24 in notebook if not done Please have on desk: Notebook

14 Friday, September 25th Entry Task Schedule:
Answer the following questions using full sentences, IQIA. How do minerals form? How can two minerals have the same chemical composition and still be different minerals? What is the most common group of all the minerals? Schedule: 2.1 Quiz Mineral properties Objective: I can be assessed on the 4 characteristics of minerals and can explain the two minerals that make up Earth’s crust I can understand that a mineral is identified by its properties Homework Finish 2.2 Reading and note taking Please have on desk: Page 24 from notebook

15 To do Take quiz Turn quiz in to front desk
