3 The workplace 13% of workforce have witnessed homophobic bullying in the workplace 1 in 5 lesbian and gay people have experienced homophobic bullying in the workplace Home office estimates 90% of homophobic hate crime goes unreported

4 ECU Report | March 2009 >more than half of lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) staff and over a third of students think that equality issues related to sexual orientation are treated less seriously by their institution than other equality issues such as race or disability >a third of LGB staff have been treated negatively by colleagues >one in five gay students has taken time out of their course because of problems relating to their sexuality, homophobic discrimination and bullying

7 WEI Employer Engagement 378 organisations entered the index, up from 352 in 2010 and 317 in 2009 Submissions from 25 different industries Over 9,100 responses to the staff feedback from 323 employers 29 local universities took part in index, 5 in the Top 100
