Exploring Quadrilaterals Unit 7-3 Objective: You will define and analyze relationships among quadrilaterals.

 Quadrilateral— Any polygon with 4 sides Draw a quadrilateral

 Parallelograms- 1. A quadrilateral 2. Opposite sides are equal 3. Opposite sides are parallel 4. Opposite angles are equal 5. Consecutive angles are supplementary Draw a Parallelogram

Definitions  Parallelograms- any quadrilateral whose opposite sides are parallel and equal.

PARALLELOGRAM

Definitions  Rhombus—

Definitions  Rhombus—any parallelogram where all of the sides are equal.

Rhombus Notice the angles are not 90 degrees!!

Definitions  Square—

Definitions  Square—a rhombus whose angles are all 90 degrees.

Definitions  Square—a rhombus whose angles are all 90 degrees.  Remember—a rhombus is a parallelogram with 4 equal sides.

Definitions  Square—a rhombus whose angles are all 90 degrees.  Remember—a rhombus is a parallelogram with 4 equal sides.  Remember—a parallelogram is a quadrilateral whose opposite sides are parallel.

SQUARE

Definitions  Rectangle—

Definitions  Rectangle—A parallelogram with 4 right angles.

RECTANGLE

Definitions  Trapeziod—

Definitions  Trapeziod—A quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides.

Trapeziod

ISOSCELES TRAPEZIOD Notice the non-parallel sides are equal.

Characteristics of Parallelograms  #1– opposite sides are parallel and equal.

Characteristics of Parallelograms  #1– opposite sides are parallel and equal.  #2—opposite angles are equal.

Characteristics of Parallelograms  #1– opposite sides are parallel and equal.  #2—opposite angles are equal.  #3—adjacent angles are supplementary.

Characteristics of Parallelograms  #1– opposite sides are parallel and equal.  #2—opposite angles are equal.  #3—adjacent angles are supplementary.  #4—diagonals bisect each other.
