3 INTRODUCTION: “WHY” CHOOSE THIS INNOVATION? In Nigeria, renewable energy accounts for less than 5% harnessed energy by the power and energy sector. Due to the power instability in the country, there is need to create a low maintenance, efficient and affordable form of power generation. In this case combining the available energy source to meet this common goal is our best option because Nigeria and indeed Africa is a blessed with Human and Natural Resources and harnessing this resource will be the only way we can grow. The renewable energy market therefore opens a virgin market to those who choose to manufacture such products locally. So with the advancement of this technology to accommodate hybridization, there will be new frontier in the renewable sector in Nigeria with our abundant sunlight and wind. Combining the solar radiance and the wind resource while also managing our conventional resource will help us meet out goal of stable power generation which we have lacked for a long time now. The hybrid design is fashioned in a manner to meet the everyday need of the common Nigerian Therefore manufacturing a product like this in Nigeria will give us the confidence of self reliance while solving our most important problem – Power.

5 MARKET RELEVANCE OF INNOVATION The confidence in undertaking this project innovation is because there is a vacuum in the local market for renewable energy projects as well as energy products locally. There is already the presence of the technical know-how to develop a solar-wind hybrid system. Subsequently, a mapping of a market group can be outlined that would thorough benefit from this kind of innovation. End-User Groups: These are the home owners and small business owners who are looking for an alternative to the epileptic power supply in the country Business Groups: Industries, both small, medium and large-scale, would need a power alternative to the overheads in diesel cost because of the epileptic national power supply Government Groups: Rural Electrification is the main responsibility of the government can be enhanced using this product which requires little to no maintenance.

6 FLOW CHART OF A RENEWABLE HYBRID INVERTER SYSTEM Designing an inverter system brings into cognizance the previous design of inverter designs and an updated version of this design to suit Wind- Solar-PHCN grid – Generator set – battery cells to produce an appropriate AC power to feed homes and business. A sample design of how the entire sources are available. In this case, a prototype 3.5KVA hybrid inverter system was designed with an out of 48V to accommodate 3*300W solar panel and a modified 1000W wind turbine connected to a house situated in the rural area in the Eastern region of Nigeria to show its practical application.

There exist already good opportunities for this innovation coupled with the growing concerns of global warming.

11 COMPARING THE HYBRID INVERTER SYSTEM WITH CONVENTIONAL INVERTER HYBRID INVERTER INNOVATION It has two renewable input sources for solar PV panel and wind turbine for simultaneous renewable energy generation. It doesn’t make use of external charge controller. All components are enclosed make use of “plug and play” method making installation quite easy. Designed to meet the needs of the African populace and It can be locally manufactured in Nigeria to reduce cost. OTHER INVERTER SYSTEM It doesn’t have a renewable inputs source. 12 HOW NSE PRIZE WOULD HELP IN MAKING THIS PRODUCT A SUCCESS  This will go a long way in ensuring the continuity of this innovation in terms of R & D.  It will make available the necessary technical equipment for the mass production of the innovation to meet the required industrial standard and also the masses at an affordable fee.  It will have an astounding effect on public awareness of this innovation to the entire engineering community and beyond.  It will avail the opportunity to bring in key personnel proficient in computational materials modelling in other to building a better and sustainable product.  Designs are being made to make this product to wireless connect to home-owners device and it will possess programmable logic controllers to interact with owner’s home and make necessary adjustments to increase power efficiency it deems fit automated, making this system super-smart.
