Juvenile mothers aren’t adapted to society, who stayed in orphanage (also children’s home)

Social pedagogy - what is it? In essence, social pedagogy is concerned with well- being, learning and growth. Social pedagogy is a ‘function of society‘. It describes how a given society thinks about children’s upbringing, about the relationship between the individual and society, and how it supports marginalized members of society.

My master’s thesis concerns juvenile mothers who aren’t adapted to society. I chose this subject because I’m interested in pathology in families. Lawyers, psychologists and sociologists also bring this problems into focus. Many commentators have said that undervaluation is the forbidden subject of our generation. It should not exist.

About sexual behaviours BoysGirls Experience of sexual initiation (% subjects) 16 years18 years16 years18 years Participation people, who had experience of sexual initiation at the age of 15 or less 17,09,75,96,5 Table. 1. Sexual behaviours among students being at the age of 16 and 18 in 2005. Teenangers usually get out knowledge about sex from media: films, magazines and from age-mates. Media presents content, commercials, programmes, that favour starting of sexual activity. It has consequences. Youth decides on sexual initiation without thinking. It happens, that young people make a decision about sexual intercourse without emotional engagement.

Research Research „ 16 thousands of juvenile mothers conceived in unwanted pregnancy in 2005 ”. In contrast, of date updated in GUS (2006) indicate that:,, In Poland 19230 girls to 19 years old have a baby in 2006”

During studies I did practices in orphanage’s. I had a chance to meet a lot of children with histories of their life’s. I had found out conditions of work and In my opinion being a social worker specialist is a very difficult job and surely not for everyone. Social workers shouldn’t connect their personal life with their professional life. It is hard because It's woven into the fabric of our daily and our business lives. Children need to care, affection from them. Social workers should keep ones distance.

Juvenile mothers aren’t adapted to society. They didn’t grow up in normal families. Their biology families function incorrectly. They wanted to forget about their biology families. Their parents don’t care about their needs, education, private and sexual life. They hadn’t got sense of duty upbringing their daughters, so they stayed in orphanage. Each of them became a mother very early and wasn’t prepared for this new situation and was forced to manage alone. Their children hadn’t got normal family like theirs. They are brought up by social workers. That’s why their life was a nightmare.

Juvenile mothers were aggressive to other people, and their own children. They often played truant, started smoking and lied to social workers. They wanted to be independent. They couldn’t cook, wash up and clean. They broke the law. They are very difficult to leave.

In my masters thesis I described this situations on the subject. I read a lot of books about teenagers who aren’t adapted to society. In recent years this problem became more serious. Teenagers have many of freedom, latitude. They often make use of this situation.

Family is very important in our life. Both men and women, who want to become parents, should ask their doctor for family planning advice or treatment. Decision about time of childbirth is a wonderful when it’s planning. The care doesn't stop when the baby's born. I also believe that social and economic situation of teenagers families improve for better one day.

„ M like Mother” My master’s thesis was connected with social project, “M like mother”. When we made diagnostics in orphanage, we started working on this project. We ( Me and my friends from studies) were students, older friendship so our experience was extensive. We wanted to share the experience.

Characteristics juvenile mothers Heroines of project lived in families with problems. Alcoholism, lack of one or both parents, had influence on girl’s behavior. They hadn’t authorities and people who could support them in their surroundings. Lack of control, care and good advices how to live, caused that teenagers were forced to decide about themselves and make all decisions to accord their own surroundings. As a consequence, they started to live and do in the way they like. Unfortunately, effects of their acting came very soon. They had to take responsibility for themselves and their children as a growing girls.

We taught they cooking, writing cv’s, cleaning and other important things. We organized collection with clothes and cosmetics for juvenile mothers and their children.

We changed their image, we were with juvenile mothers at hairdressing salon, beauty salon and make-up artist.

We organized parties for they and their children.

Problems in project realization We had big problem with finding sponsors, who could cover the cost of some operations. Often enough we didn’t get answer for our letters with requests or they were just negative.

Problems in project realization Next factor was limited time both us and juvenile mothers. Girls very often went away to their hometowns, for weekends or holiday and that’s why we were forced to take our appointment back and tried to postpone it. Girls behaviour also influenced on failure some of our actions. In the context of problems with learning, misbehaviour, a way of talking to each other and with tutors, juvenile mothers were given ban of going out. It was also limited by their small children’s illnesses.

Activity evaluation Among all operations proposed by us the most popular were meeting at haidresser’s and with make- up artist. Their self-confidence notably increased and they gained knowledge connected with taking care about their appearance. They found out about possibilities of spending their free time and what’s most important they found a job. Girls said, that the most useful hints they got from hairdresser and dietetic. Hairdresser informed them how they can take care of their beauty and dietetic gave advices how to make healthy meal for their children, who need special care.

Summary Project „M like Mum” has been realized at Children Orphanage nr 5 in Lodz. The main goal of this project was social including of juvenile mothers. In my opinion, this kind of operations, should be realised more often and in large scale in every post.

A very difficult task, and interesting to see what kind of things came out of that. Our plan of action was succeed. Each of them found a purpose in life. They changed their life’s. One of them started a job in supermarket, other left school. Their behavior reformed.

I have pleased about this master’s thesis and spend a lot of my free time in orphanage because I learned great things about these places. We needed time to get to know the people that we're serving. I saw for myself what their lives were about. And I'm very proud and happy to be in that role because it is a fascinating position to be in.

Juvenile mothers and social workers thanked us for spend time together, and for our help realization in plan of action. Once of them told me: “Malwina, that's awesome” When I first heard it, I was quite proud of myself.
