3 NO ONE UNDER 18 MAY BE EMPLOYED IN CERTAIN OCCUPATIONS

4 Construction Work No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Construction including –Wrecking –Demolition –Roofing –Excavating –Painting or Exterior cleaning from an elevated surface

5 Electrical Saw Operation No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: –Operation of Circular Saws –Band saws –Guillotine Shears

6 Slaughter House No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Slaughter house or meat-packing establishment

7 Power Driven Machinery No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Operation of power driven machinery –Wood working –Metal-forming –Metal-punching –Metal-shearing –Bakery –Paper product

8 Hoisting Machinery No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Power-driven hoisting apparatus

9 Brick Making No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Manufacture of bricks –Tiles –Kindred products

10 Radioactive Substances No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Any occupation involving exposure to radioactive substances –Ionizing radiation –Exposure to silica –Other harmful dust

11 Logging Operations No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Logging operations –Saw mill –Lath mill –Shingle mill –Cooperative-stock mill

12 Motor Vehicle Helper No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: –Helper on a motor vehicle

13 Elevator No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Care or operation of a freight or passenger elevator, except minors over 16 may operate automatic, push-button control elevators

14 Explosives No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Manufacturing, packing or storing of explosives nor in use or delivery of explosives

15 Baser Metals & Iridium No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Operating or using any emery, tripoli, rouge, corundum, stone, silicon carbide or an abrasive or emery polishing or buffing wheel where articles of the baser metals or iridium are manufactured

16 Machinery No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Machinery –Adjusting belts –Cleaning –Wiping –Oiling

17 Paint Packing No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Packing Paints –Dry Colors –Red leads –White leads

18 Poisonous Acids No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Preparing any composition in which dangerous or poisonous acids are used

19 Steam Boilers No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Operating steam boilers subject to Section 204 of the Labor Law

20 Quarry or Mining No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Any occupation or in connection with a –Mine –Quarry

21 Correctional Institutions No one under 18 may be employed in or assist in: Penal or Correctional Institutions if employment relates to the custody or care of prisoners or inmates

25 Teens Be aware that you have the right to work in a safe and healthful environment. Participate in training programs at work. Let your supervisor know when you’re doing a task for the first time. Ask for guidance in performing the task safely.

26 Teens “No” is a good answer. If you are under 18, no supervisor should ask you to do certain hazardous jobs, such as: Driving a car or riding in the back of an open truck. Using a power-driven meat slicer or bakery machine. Using a power-driven woodworking machine, circular saw, or band saw. Roofing or excavation operations.

27 Office Safety File cabinets Electric cords Paper shredders Over-loaded desks or counters. Slippery floors. Portable heaters.

28 Retail Safety Merchandise on floor or in aisles. Knives or cutting tools. Compactors Freight elevators Stock/boxes improperly stacked. Electric cords. Wet floors.

29 Restaurant Safety Heating tools/equipment. Greasy or wet floors. Garbage pails Knives, slicers Hot oils; fryers Misplaced chairs Stairs, doors.

30 Warehouse/Mechanical Power tools. Forklifts. Head, eyes, feet, and ear gear. Refuse collectors, compactors. Truck lifts. Cutting tools. Chemicals.

31 Health Safety Diseases Chemicals Sharp objects. Wet floors. Misplaced furniture. Lifting and moving.

32 IT’S NOT WORTH IT! DON’T PUT YOURSELF IN A POSITION WHERE YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY IS AT RISK… IT’S JUST NOT WORTH IT. PRACTICE SAFETY EVERYDAY UNTIL IT BECOMES SECOND NATURE TO YOU AND THOSE AROUND YOU.
