2 * Australian banknotes come in denominations of $100, $50, $20, $10 and $5. They also come in different colours for easy identification. * They are made of plastic and provide much greater security against counterfeiting. They also last four times as long as conventional paper notes. * They are of the same measure vertically, but differ in measure horizontally. The $100 note has the greatest horizontal measure, the $5 note the least.

3 The $100 note features world-renowned soprano Dame Nellie Melba (1861–1931). General Sir John Monash (1865–1931) was a distinguished soldier, engineer and administrator. Monash University was named after him. David Unaipon (1872–1967) was an Aboriginal writer and inventor. The $50 note features Edith Cowan (1861- 1932) who was famous for being a politician, social campaigner and first woman elected in Australian parliament.

4 The $20 note features the founder of the world’s first aerial medical service (the Royal Flying Doctor Service), the Reverend John Flynn (1880–1951). Mary Reibey (1777–1855), arrived in Australia as a convict in 1792 and went on to become a successful shipping magnate and philanthropist. Dame Mary Gilmore (1865–1962) was a prominent Australian socialist poet and journalist. The $10 note features Banjo Paterson (1864–1941) who was an Australian bush poet, journalist and author.
