1. 마틴 퓨리어 (Martin Puryear) 어떤 공예의 전통속에도 예술이 존재한다고 생각한다. 공예는 의미를 전달하는 또 다른 방법이다. 나는 예술이란 결국 의도와 개인적인 재능의 문제라고 생각한다. 예술에서 착상은 수단이나 기술 그리고 기능에 우선한다. 착상은 반드시 수단과 기술을 초월해야 하는것이다. 나는 이점이 왜 공예를 예술로 승화시키기 어려운지, 그리고 왜 공예에서 예술성을 실현하기 힘든지에 대한 이유가 된다고 생각한다.
