Outcomes of survey  Gender equality in industrial affiliates - Women officials: only 7% (total women workers: 14.3%) - Women quotas still not popular - Women policies mainly focused on the minimum level of standards mandated by law 5

6  Gender Equality in Workplaces - Big difference in maternity protection bet. atypical & regular women workers - Maternity leave better implemented than childcare leave - Non-discrimination in recruitment, placement, wages and promotion stipulated in CBAs / but not fully implemented - Not enough measures against sexual harassment 6

7 Conclusions of the survey - Need for institutionalization of mechanism for more women participation and representation - Need for further allocation of budgets for elimination of discrimination and work/family balance - Need for providing with a model CBA - Need for organizing more women workers - Need for objective gender equality index 7

9 Objective: To raise awareness on decent work for women and gender equality Time & Venue: in front of FKTU headquarters in Seoul / on 3 April 2008 Main activities: short rally, distribution of fliers and campaign buttons to citizens. Major demands - To provide women with more decent jobs by guaranteeing decent living wages, social insurances, training and education opportunities. - To fully implement anti-discriminatory measures in the law on the protection of fixed-term workers - To eliminate groundless discrimination against atypical women workers 9

11 Venue & Date: 7 Oct 2008, in front of the National Assembly Objective:: To achieve decent work by promoting rights at work, strengthening solidarity, and ending poverty and inequality Major Demands - To take drastic measures to eliminate discrimination against non-regular workers (changing status to regular one, increasing wages, expanding social protection, etc) - To withdraw unilateral restructuring plan for public sector which focuses on arbitrary layoffs - To promote social dialogue - To alleviate gap between large enterprises and SMEs - To eliminate all types of discrimination based on gender, age, disability, etc. Street March 11

12  Objectives - To raise awareness on the importance of equal share of household chores, esp, ahead of traditional holidays (thanksgiving holiday, lunar new year’s holiday) - TU to take the lead in establishing a new culture of gender equality  Main activities - Distribution of dish sponges with a sticker saying “10 principles of equal holiday campaign” to citizens with an aim of advising men to help female family members with dish washing. 12

16 Labor Class for Women Workers - Date: 27 May / 30 Oct - Curricula: labor laws related to women workers, film presentation on atypical women workers, FKTU action priorities, meetings with senior women officials Women Leadership Training - Date: 17-19 Nov 2008 - Curricula: FKTU main activities, women leadership and political empowerment, etc 16

17 1,200 copies produced and distributed to union members Contents: roles of women in trade unions, women workers’ rights, maternity protection, equal employment, reconciliation of work and family, FKTU female quotas, elimination of sexual harassment at work, introduction of FKTU Equal Employment Counseling Center, 2008 minimum wage, etc. 17
