May 1, 2016 - Following His Voice

Cool Assignment  Our daily reading (Link from di.church)  Luke 9:1-2 And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.  Wouldn’t that be cool to be in that group?

Wait…What?  We have been given that same assignment!  Matthew 28:19-20 - Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

Remember: Hearing His Voice?  Ask  Read  Listen  Test  Act – We need to act to continue God’s speaking

What are we supposed to do?  Jesus came to seek and save the lost – Luke 19:10  He sends us to continue his work  Make disciples – Matt 28:19-20  Be Christ’s ambassadors  Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. – 2 Corinthians 5:20

How?  Pray and ask for opportunities  Don’t get stuck here  Look for opportunities and speak  Break out of comfort zone  When you feel the inner tug of the Spirit – then move, speak!  Get head out of sand  Take time at work/in stores/while driving to see the people around you

What to do/say - Models 1. Good Samaritan – help with needs of people around you – Luke 10:25-37 2. Philip – Philip said to him, “Come and see.” – John 1:46 3. Woman at well – share what Jesus did for you – John 4  Peter, Paul 4. Disciples – pray for healing, share the good news – Luke 9,10

Good Samaritan – Help with Needs Even “enemies”  Luke 10:30-35 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

Philip – Come and See - Invitation  John 1:45-46 - Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip.  Invite to see Jesus – Invite to church, Bible studies etc.

Woman At Well – Share what Jesus did  John 4:28-30 - Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” 30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him.  John 4:42 - They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

What if they don’t listen?  It isn’t our job to make people listen or believe  We cannot save people, we cannot make people listen, we cannot make people believe in God  The good news is that all of these are God’s job, not ours.  Our job is just to speak and act  God’s job is to produce the result!

Challenge  Speak to at least 1 person (non-believer) about Jesus this week  Not in your family (unless they are not a believer)  Not in the church
