5 The ETUI - Education ● Main training activities ● Training eurotrainers ● European training for Young trade union leaders ● European works councils ● Strategic management and Project management ● Language courses (EN, FR) ● ETUC priority ○ Sustainable development ○ Trade union renewal; Organising and recruitment ○ Free movement of workers and migration ○ More and better jobs (post lisbone, flexicurity, employment strategy, precarious jobs, etc) ○ Economic crisis ○ Social dialogue

6 The European training for Young trade union leaders

7 Target group Compulsory ● young, under 40 years old ● elected or hold a post with responsibility within their trade union organisation ● Supplementary requirements: ● have attended trade union training courses at national or European level (for example on negotiation skills, communication skills, etc.) ● basic understanding of European affairs; ● have ITC skills ● have a basic knowledge of a second language of the European training

8 Target group (2) ● to act as a 'multiplier' for the trade union movement ● to help establishing informal networks with other participants in the training, ● to apply the knowledge and skills acquired within his/her own trade union working environment ● to be able to bring the national and trade union realities to the European training

9 Aims ● Develop the capacity to integrate the European and national dimension/perspective into the trade union work ● Develop the capacity to work in a multicultural environment ● Develop the capacity to communicate on the trade union topics ● Analyse complex situations and design trade union strategies ● Contribute to the development of the European trade union identity

10 Topics/ content ● Recent evolutions and future trends of the globalisation of the organisations, enterprises and world of work ● the financial and economic crisis (the origin, aspects and dimensions; current situation; impact/ consequences, political measures and TU facing the crises) ● globalisation, neo-liberal model and labour rights (precarity; time flexibility, weak social security regulations, low wages, weakening the collective bargaining etc) ● tendencies and future opportunities

11 Topics/ content (2) ● European trade union realities and the world of work ● ETUC (members, principles, values, etc) ; PERC ; ILO, GUF’S ; ITUC ● European social partners (roles, influence, etc) ● ETUC priorities, Congress, Executive ● National TU realities, the work with ETUC ● Challenges for trade unionism, union renewal ● Representation of young generation

12 Topics/ content (3) ● National industrial relations’ system (or in different countries in Europe) ● workers’ representation and their bodies; EWC; European Social Dialogue ● what is an industrial relation system? ● national industrial relations systems and the consequences for Social Europe ● social rights and European Employment Strategy

13 Topics/ content (4) ● Social dialogue and collective bargaining at European level ● collective bargaining: historical concept; the role of CB; important tool for social progress ● social dialogue: the concept; partners; European level; tools

14 Skills ● Computer skills (using an electronic platform for distance work) ● Presentation skills ● Observation skills ● Networking/ team member skills ● Leadership skills ● (Intercultural) communication skills
