1 Pick up a copy of the Characters/Symbols Chart 1. In the event of fire 2. Next to my dog 3. Until the dance 4. Beside the vacant lot on our street 5. Instead of dinner Write a sentence using each of the following introductory prepositional phrases. Make sure you punctuate correctly when necessary.

2 Main Characters/ Symbols Working in small groups (4 or LESS), you must complete the chart filling in the following information: Character/SymbolSignificance to the novelQuotes – Character description/Symbol meaning (include page numbers) The littlunsEx: The “civilians” on the island, following guidance of the leader Emphasize the power of fear 1. “They obeyed the summons of the conch, partly because Ralph blew it, and he was big enough to be a link with the adult world of authority” (59) 2. “You littluns started all this, with the fear talk.” (82) This will be turned in at the end of class for a formative grade. Whatever you do not finish must be completed for homework and turned in on Friday.

3 Turn in you Character/Symbol Chart Remember that I only need one from each group. Just make sure to circle the name of the original owner.

8 Pick up the Ch 9 Critical Reading Passage Ralph’s “tribe” Jack’s Tribe Complete the T-Chart to identify the differences between the two groups that have formed on the island. (Personality, Appearance, Goals/Objectives, Advantages, etc)

9 Pick up the Ch 9 Critical Reading Passage You have 20 minutes to read, annotate, and answer the 8 critical reading questions. Turn to a partner (next to you or behind/in front of you). Compare your annotations and answers. If you have different answers, reach an agreement on a correct answer. Turn to the next partner group nearest to you. Compare your annotations and answers again. Reach a final consensus on your correct answers.
