4. Benefits of Concurrent Enrollment It’s Free! High School Students attending part-time at CSM are not required to pay Enrollment Fees. High school students get an “early start” on your college experience. Receive College Credit for course work completed. When permitted, it is also possible to receive high school credit.

5. Middle College High School Middle College is an alternative education program Designed for students in the SMUHSD. (Cabrillo students may also participate) Students take HS courses which satisfy HS graduation requirements Students complete their schedule with three or four college classes. Separate program from “College Connection”

6. Who should consider Concurrent Enrollment? The program is open to all high school students with: Approval from parents or guardians Approval from high school counselor (or Principal or designee) Program also open at Cañada College & Skyline College (SMCCD)

7. Why Concurrent Enrollment? To gain a competitive advantage for university admission To earn college units early so as to increase the chances of earning a college degree on time! Save money on future college costs. One year versus one semester.

8. Who should consider Concurrent Enrollment? College courses are demanding. Instruction at a College level. It is recommended that high school students have at least a 2.0 GPA (10 th grade 2.5, and 9 th grade 3.0) Demonstrate readiness for the academic challenge ahead. Discuss readiness with HS Counselor

Other Fees & Text Books High school students enrolled in 11 units or less: not required to pay the Enrollment Fee or Health Fee (some courses may require payment of a materials fee - see course description in class schedule). expected to purchase their own text book(s) as recommended, or required for their college classes. 11. Concurrent Enrollment Status Apply on WebSMART Completed and submitted (to CSM) a College Connection Concurrent Enrollment Course Request Form to CSM. Satisfy Course Prerequisites Registration Block - Mainly in the area of Math, English, Chemistry, Physics

12. Assessment Center Go online to WebSmart to make an appointment College Student ID Number Photo ID Calculator for math test will be provided

Log on to your WebSmart Account At websmart.smccd.edu Use your student ID # G00------ Your birth date is your password - two digits each for month, day & year Once logged in, click on “Student Services” and then click on Your Class Schedule Summary.” Select a term: select Summer 2016 Term and then click on submit.

20. College Grades All college level coursework for which grades are issued, whether passing or failing, will become part of the students permanent academic college record. In order to avoid permanent deficient grades, students should be aware of drop deadlines.

21. How do I receive my grades? Final grades are not mailed upon completion of the semester. Students can use WebSMART to view final grades and request official transcripts. Download Transcript request (optional)

22. How do I receive High School Credit? An official transcript will need to be sent directly to the high school if any credits have been approved and are to be used toward high school graduation.

23. Your Concurrent Enrollment experience begins your college record Most universities will accept transferable or bachelors level courses taken at Community Colleges to count toward the students bachelors degree.

24. Using College Course Work for University Credit College Connection students will receive college credit for all college coursework completed. The universities to recognize and give credit for students completing baccalaureate level (or UC/CSU transfer level) courses.

25. Using College Course Work for University Credit When requested by the university, students will send an official copy of their community college transcript for verification of college work, and for the earning of baccalaureate level honors credit where applicable.

26. Opportunities and Expectations The College Connection Program provides students the opportunity to get an early start on their college experience. A concurrently enrolled student is expected to complete all class requirements, maintain a 2.0 grade point average or better in all college classes, and adhere to the Colleges Code of Conduct.
