Patents IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard. This assurance shall be provided without coercion and prior to approval of the standard (or reaffirmation when a patent becomes known after initial approval of the standard). This assurance shall be a letter that is in the form of either a) A general disclaimer to the effect that the patentee will not enforce any of its present or future patent(s) whose use would be required to implement the proposed IEEE standard against any person or entity using the patent(s) to comply with the standard or b) A statement that a license will be made available without compensation or under reasonable rates, with reasonable terms and conditions that are demonstrably free of any unfair discrimination This assurance shall apply, at a minimum, from the date of the standard's approval to the date of the standard's withdrawal and is irrevocable during that period. July 2003 Brian Mathews - AbsoluteValue Systems, Glyn Roberts – ST Microelectronics IEEE doc: IEEE 802.11-03/0519-00 Submission Summary of Activities May 2003 IEEE 802.11/.15 Publicity Standing Committee July 21-25, 2003 – San Francisco, California, USA Summary of Activities and Future Plans The Publicity Committee (PC) held one meeting for the week of July 21, 2003 chaired by Brian Mathews PC Chair 802.11 and Glyn Roberts PC Chair for 802.15. Summary update reports were received from WiFi Alliance, WiMedia Alliance, BT Sig, ZigBee Alliance. Draft press release text was reviewed announcing the formation of IEEE 802.11 TGn, and also for the final release of IEEE 802.15.2/3/4. At the IEEE 802Wireless Interim session in September the PC will receive reports from industry groups, discuss press coverage of 802.11 and 802.15, review the 802Wireless Overview document, and discuss any needed changes to 802.11/15 external communications.
