4 Working together to promote excellence in Physics GRADnet – the offer to students GRADnet is the portal to collaborative physics post graduate training across the South East Physics network. Within GRADnet you will find: technical support to help you complete your PhD; broad-based skills training to enhance your future career opportunities; events to expand your horizons and to see how to make the most of your PhD; ways to engage with potential employers through events and placements; opportunities to reach out to the wider community and enhance your C.V.… … and to help students coming through behind you; schemes to augment your funding.

5 Working together to promote excellence in Physics GRADnet – the offer to partner Universities Joined up, South East England Regional Physics Graduate School Skills and academic training for even better graduates HEFCE fund the setup costs Opportunities to bid for, and lever, greater doctoral funding (e.g research councils; Horizon 2020; etc) Opportunities for impact delivery Opportunities for new research collaborations and industry engagement Directorate to do the legwork: Pam Denicolo Dawn Duke Peter McDonald Cristobel Soares-Smith (Administrator)

6 Working together to promote excellence in Physics GRADnet Graduate schools Host at employers’ premises Based around real-life case studies Biannual – summer and winter Aspiration is to offer 2 schools per student over their 3½ years Applying skills obtained during the doctorate to real world situations Developing employability skills, learning directly from employers
