HEBREWS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FROM THE O.T.

LEVITICUS 16: 2 And the Lord said to Moses “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holy Place inside the vail, before the mercy seat, which is on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud above the mercy seat. 3 Aaron shall come into the Holy Place; with the blood of a young bull as a sin offering, and of a ram as a burnt offering. 5 And he shall take from the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats as a sin offering, and one ram as a burnt offering 6 Aaron shall offer the bull as a sin offering, which is for himself and make atonement for himself and his house. 8 Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats; one lot for the Lord and the other lot for the scapegoat. 11 And Aaron shall bring the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself and for his house.

14 He shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with his finger on the mercy seat 15 Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering, which is for the people, bring its blood inside the veil, do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat. 21 Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, concerning all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man. 22 The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to an uninhabited land, and he shall release the goat in the wilderness 30 For on that day the priest shall make atonement for you, to cleanse uou, that you may be clean from all your sins before the Lord.

WHAT IS IN A NAME ? BIBLE NAMES ALWAYS HAVE A SPECIFIC MEANING : FOR EXAMPLE : JESUS means SAVIOUR EMANUEL means GOD WITH US JOHN means the GRACIOUS ONE

Genesis 12. 1 – 3 Now the Lord had said to Abram – “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. “I will make you a GREAT NATION, I will bless you and make YOUR NAME GREAT, and you shall be a blessing. “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH SHALL BE BLESSED.”

Verse 7 : Then the Lord appeared unto Abram and said ; “To your descendants I WILL GIVE THIS LAND” HE WAS GIVEN FOUR GREAT PROMISES: A GREAT NATION A GREAT NAME A GREAT BLESSING to ALL NATIONS A GREAT LAND

WHAT IS A COVENANT ? A COVENANT is a solemn agreement between two parties. COVENANTS are VERY IMPORTANT PROMISES IN THE O.T. A COVENANT gave many PRIVILEGES PRIVILEGES brought great RESPONSIBILITIES

THE MAIN ONES ARE THESE : THE COVENANT WITH ADAM IN EDEN – which Adam broke when he sinned THE COVENANT WITH NOAH – Never again would God destroy all life with water THE COVENANT WITH ABRAM – concerning Israel THE COVENANT WITH MOSES - concerning the law and priesthood THE COVENANT WITH DAVID - to uphold the monarchy. THE NEW COVENANT - promised to Jeremiah concerning their future Two important ones for us are The Covenant with Abram, and The Covenant with Moses

THE COVENANT WITH ABRAHAM: Genesis 15. 13 – 16: Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. And also the nation whom they serve I will judge, afterward they shall come out with great possessions. NOW AS FOR YOU, you shall go to your fathers in peace, you shall be buried at a good old age.”

EXODUS 6. 6 – 8: “I am the Lord; I WILL BRING YOU OUT from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I WILL RESCUE YOU from their bondage, I WILL REDEEM YOU with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. “I WILL TAKE YOU AS MY PEOPLE, and I WILL BE YOUR GOD. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. “And I WILL BRING YOU into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I WILL GIVE IT TO YOU as a heritage: I am the Lord.”

There is the promise again: “I WILL TAKE YOU AS MY PEOPLE, AND I WILL BE YOUR GOD.”

ACTS 6.7 : “Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.”

Colossians. 3. 9 – 12: Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the OLD MAN with his deeds, And have put on the NEW MAN who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.
