Annual Faculty Activity Reporting & Faculty Profiles University Faculty Information & Support A shared vision for the dedicated management of faculty data, systems and support.

Introduction Jeremy Uffens Director, University Faculty Information & Support Eric Lippincott Software Product Manager, UFIS Marcie Larson Project Coordinator Krista Kendall CV Project Coordinator

Vision & Purpose Create a combined database of faculty activity for university-wide reporting. Add utility for faculty within FAR (CV and biosketch tools) while improving usability for faculty and college admins. Provide more options for importing faculty data, including bibliography files & systems (e.g. PubMed, Scopus, Academic Analytics). Create a dedicated team focused solely on creating and supporting faculty tools and data. Integrate with other systems and provide data to assist in accreditation processes.

College Discretion Each dean determines what is required of faculty to enter into the annual activity report. However, the university is now requiring all tenure and career-line faculty to have a completed profile.

Activity Report Updates DEMO

Dedicated Faculty Support Team Listening and Incorporating Feedback Troubleshooting, Bug Reporting, Enhancement Requests Single Team Phone Line Email Responses within 30 Minutes Online Instant Chat HELP!

Faculty Profiles Profile vs. Activity Report (FAR) Who has a profile? (faculty.utah.edu/ ) By default: Appointed Faculty Instructors (anyone listed from class schedule) Current issue with unpaid volunteers Ad Hoc (by college or department FAR admins) Graduate Students (only those who are paid) Emeritus Faculty * Key Staff Members

Profiles University-wide resource for highlighting faculty by college and department. Unified directory representation of faculty, not intended to replace research or other sites. Some don’t want to be found and some are automatically excluded. Lots of “empty” profiles linked from the class schedule and Find a Researcher

Minimum Profile Decision from 8/20/15 Council of Deans: Require minimum profile for Tenure & Career Line Faculty Proposed required entries (updated annually): CV (public) Review appointment(s) (for correctness) Education Biography Selected publications or creative works Research Summary Photo

Current Display Options Each faculty is listed in a university branded profile These profiles are fully indexed for campus Google search (optimized for Find a Researcher) Linked from class schedule (instructor’s name) An interface for updating information. Like the Activity Report, it all updates the same master database.

Current Options 2 – University provided profiles styled with college branding Still uses the “provided” profile, but made to match department/college website.

Current Options 3 – Data driven department websites Data from profiles delivered and displayed in departmental websites. Can be done within OmniUpdate or any department with technical resources. Profiles “live” within department page, has the department’s URL (SEO considerations). When this option exists, Find a Researcher and class schedule still link to university provided profile view.
