3 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE Crew President (See Venturing Leadership Manual p.10 for more info.) Serves as youth leader of the crew; implements the crew program in cooperation with the other officers and members; works closely with Advisor and other adult leaders in a spirit of partnership; assist crew advisors at crew officer’s seminar; presents annual reports to charter organization; with the approval of the advisor, appoints chairs for projects; represents the crew at Teen Leader Council meetings and at the TLC program planning conference

4 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE Administration Vice President (See Venturing Leadership Manual p.13 for more info.) Serves as administrative officer to the crew; assumes responsibilities of the crew president if absent; leads the recruiting and admission of new members; recognizes achievements of crew members; is responsible for opening and closing on special occasions; keeps an up- to-date crew roster; participates in the council TLC program planning conference

5 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE Program Vice President (See Venturing Leadership Manual p.13-14 for more info.) Arranges program planning process; collects and maintains crew activity file; determines the interest of the crew members; provides support for the activity chairs and committees; maintains an up- to-date calendar of meetings and activities; appoints chairs for projects and activities.

6 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE Secretary (See Venturing Leadership Manual p.14 for more info.) Manages communications and publicity for the crew; maintains crew membership and attendance records; is responsible for all crew correspondence and minutes; creates a communication every month to be distributed to all crew members.

7 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE Treasurer (See Venturing Leadership Manual p.14 & 16 for more info.) Maintains financial records and monitors the crew’s budget; collects and disperses funds; communicates information about the crew’s finances to the crew members.

8 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE APPOINTED POSITIONS CREW QUARTERMASTER –APPOINTED BY THE CREW PRESIDENT AND REPORTS TO THE CREW PRESIDENT CREW GUIDE –APPOINTED BY THE CREW PRESIDENT OR ADVISOR AND REPORTS TO THE CREW PRESIDENT CREW GUIDE –APPOINTED BY THE CREW PRESIDENT AND REPORTS TO THE CREW PRESIDENT

9 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE Quartermaster (See http://www.nationalventuringyouthcabinet.org/files/positions.pdf)http://www.nationalventuringyouthcabinet.org/files/positions.pdf Responsible for the Crew supplies and equipment. Keeps an inventory of and maintains equipment in good working order. When equipment is lent to a Crew member, the Quartermaster monitors the safe return of that which was loaned. The Crew Quartermaster generates a list of equipment and supplies needed by the Crew for future acquisition.

11 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE Historian (See http://www.nationalventuringyouthcabinet.org/files/positions.pdf)http://www.nationalventuringyouthcabinet.org/files/positions.pdf Collects and preserves memorabilia, press releases, photos, and other data of historical significance to the Crew. Maintains records/information about Crew activities.

12 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE OTHER CREW POSITIONS… MAY INCLUDE…. Activity Chair –Activity Chairs are appointed by the Crew President for special projects in the six Venturing experience areas: Social, service, fitness, outdoor, leadership, and citizenship. (Appointed by the Crew President) Den Chief –To qualify as a Crew Den Chief, the Venturer must have achieved at least First Class rank as a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout. The den chief works with the Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts, and den leaders in the Cub Scout pack. Helps Cub Scouts advance through Cub Scout ranks and encourages Cub Scouts to join a Boy Scout troop upon graduation. 13 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE ELECTION OF OFFICERS 12 MONTH TERMS ARE STANDARD

14 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE WHEN SHOULD THEY BE HELD? ASAP AFTER THE START UP OF A NEW CREW ESTABLISHED CREWS ELECT OFFICERS IN THE FALL, CORRESPONDING TO THE SCHOOL YEAR. OTHER CREWS ELECT OFFICERS IN JANUARY TO FOLLOW THE CALENDAR YEAR WHICH ALLOWS FOR CONTINUITY FOR THE CREW THROUGH THE SPRING AND SUMMER MONTHS.

15 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE TYPES OF ELECTIONS TWO TYPES OF ELECTIONS MAY TAKE PLACE IN A CREW: TEMPORARY ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOLLOWED BY A PERMANENT ELECTION (NEW CREW) PERMANENT ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR A ONE-YEAR TERM

16 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE ELECTION PROCEDURES CERTAIN PROCEDURES SHOULD BE FOLLOWED WHEN A CREW HOLDS ITS REGULAR ELECTION. THESE PROCEDURES INCLUDE…

17 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE #1 THE ADVISOR INFORMS CREW MEMBERS OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DESCRIPTION OF EACH OFFICE AND STRESSES THE NEED FOR COMMITMENT TO THE GOALS OF THE CREW AND ATTENDANCE AT ALL MEETINGS.

18 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE #2 THE PRESENT OR TEMPORARY YOUTH PRESIDENT EXPLAINS THE ELECTION PROCEDURES AND THE DATE OF THE ELECTION, AND APPOINTS A NOMINATING COMMITTEE OF THREE OR MORE CREW MEMBERS. THIS NOMINATING COMMITTEE WILL INTERVIEW PROSPECTS AND PREPARE A SLATE OF NOMINEES. AN ASSOCIATE ADVISOR SHOULD BE INVOLVED WITH THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE TO LEND SUPPORT AND ADVICE. A NOMINATING COMMITTEE IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE THE COMMITTEE TAKES THE TIME TO BE SURE THAT NOMINEES ARE ABLE AND WILLING TO SERVE. THOSE NOMINATED SHOULD UNDERSTAND AND COMMIT TO THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND THE TIME INVOLVED.

19 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE #3 THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE INTERVIEWS THOSE CREW MEMBERS INDICATING AN INTEREST IN RUNNING FOR OFFICE AND CONTACTS ANY OTHERS THE COMMITTEE FEELS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED. ALL NOMINEES MUST BE REGISTERED VENTURERS.

20 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE #4 ON ELECTION DAY, CERTAIN PROCEDURES ARE FOLLOWED…

21 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE THE PRESIDENT ASKS FOR THE NOMINATING REPORT – THE SLATE OF CANDIDATES FOR EACH OFFICE CREW MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO MAKE ANY ADDITIONAL NOMINATIONS. IF THE NOMINATIONS OF THESE INDIVIDUALS ARE SECONDED AND THE NOMINEES AGREE TO SERVE, THEIR NAMES ARE ADDED TO THE BALLOT NOMINATIONS ARE CLOSED BY A MAJORITY VOTE.

22 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE EACH NOMINEE IS INVITED TO GIVE A BRIEF TALK ON HIS OR HER QUALIFICATIONS, GOALS, AND DESIRE TO SERVE. CREW MEMBERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO ASK QUESTIONS OF EACH CANDIDATE. VOTING THEN TAKES PLACE. IF THERE IS ONLY ONE NOMINEE FOR AN OFFICE, THE PRESIDENT REQUESTS A MOTION TO APPROVE THIS NOMINEE FOR OFFICE. IF THERE ARE TWO OR MORE NOMINEES FOR AN OFFICE, VOTING IS DONE BY SECRET BALLOT. THE NOMINEE RECEIVING THE MOST VOTES IS ELECTED. IN THE EVENT OF A TIE, THE TWO NOMINEES RECEIVING THE MOST VOTES ARE VOTED ON AGAIN.

23 PANTHER DISTRICT VENTURING ROUNDTABLE THE NEWLY ELECTED OFFICERS ARE CONGRATULATED, AND AN INSTALLTION CEREMONY MAY BE CONDUCTED. CONDUCT A CREW OFFICERS BRIEFING (TRAINING AND PLANNING SEMINAR FOR NEWLY ELECTED OFFICERS) RIGHT AFTER THE ELECTION…SEE PAGE 30 OF THE VENTURING LEADER MANUAL FOR MORE DETAILS.
