2 Date Titre du diaporama 2 IENA’s project Introduction In spite of its predominant economic weight in developing countries, little is known about the informal sector and informal employment informal sector jobs represent between 30% and 70% of total employment, while informal employment can reach 80% to 90% of the occupied population, depending on the countries The share of the informal sector in the GDP is probably lower but still highly significant

Roubaud) was to propose to different partners (NSI and international experts) the IENA’s project : Following Hanoi international conference "The Informal Sector and Informal Employment: Statistical Measurement, Economic Implications and Public Policies" in May 2010 Project coordinated by DIAL (France) and CEPS-INSTEAD (Luxembourg) with the participation of Insee (Cooperation) The project comprises two components:  Development of a generic framework to integrate the informal economy into the SNA  Implementation of this framework and conduct of empirical exercises in various developing countries Plus a proposal for elaborating a methodology about satellite account on Informal economy

4 Date Titre du diaporama 4 IENA’s project Members of the group : international experts from Insee, Dial, independant consultants (M. Séruzier, B. Leenhardt) and seven pilot countries (2 representatives per country composed by experts in national accounts and statisticians in labour surveys) Africa: Cameroon, Madagascar, Morocco; Latin America: Mexico, Peru; Asia: Sri Lanka, Vietnam. Selection tacking account on both a) existing mixed surveys (1-2 or 1-2-3 types) to complete the project, and experiments / activities past and current; b) passed and current collaborations between international experts and national statisticians Challenges in different speaking languages (French, english, spanish, vietnamese….)

5 Date Titre du diaporama 5 IENA’s project After conference in Hanoï in May 2010, exchanges by mail Official Launch of the project: workshop in Differdanges (Luxembourg) in January 2011 Exchanges by mail and technical missions in countries (Peru, Cameroon, Madagascar) Second mid-term workshop in Esch-sur-alzette (Luxembourg) in January 2013 Exchanges by mail and technical missions in countries (Vietnam, Peru, Madagascar) Publication forthcoming (the first version is in course) Final workshop in 2016 (to finalize the project)
