1. Brief to the country context – main health and health sector related changes and challenges Universal health system (SUS) Public x Private (challenge): private insurance as commodities (40 million, international companies) Family Health Strategy (large scale): 95% municipalities, 56% population – main problems: infrastructure, organization and quality of care New programs for expansion of PHC (Mais Médicos, outreach to remote and vulnerable areas – 13.300 doctors distributed throughout Brazil according to vulnerabilty criteria) New programs for expansion and PHC-oriented medical training Management and financial challenge: 200 million inhabitants, more than 5,000 municipalities – leading to privatizing management of HRH Challenge to retain Family Health teams, especially doctors and CHWs

Strengthen the structure of PHM Brazil through common platform Strengthen the connection local-global Strengthen our capacity: activism, research and training Strengthen PHM presence throughout the country Better balance between academia and grassroots Some plans: IPHU Maranhão, dissemination of the PHM Charter, Alegremia workshops in communities
