3 COMMUNITY ? A group of people who live close to one another and are united by common interests and mutual aid. Or The geographic area with which the people identify themselves as well as the area served by a town’s retail and service sectors.

4 ASSESSMENT ? Assessment is the process of gathering and discussing information from multiple and diverse sources in order to develop a deep understanding of what People know, understand, and can do with their knowledge as a result of their educational experiences; the process culminates when assessment results are used to improve subsequent learning.

5 COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT ? A Community Assessment is basically a description of a community and its people. The purpose is to identify the needs of a community in order to provide services appropriate to those needs.

7 COMMUNTIY ASSESSMENT PROCESS A Community Assessment is basically a process of asking and answering questions about key factors that influence the community’s potential for planned growth and development. A community development assessment is a broad assessment, since many factors within a community are interrelated and influence each other.

9 DATA COLLECTION METHODS Cont... a. QUANTITATIVE METHOD: Traditional Economic Development Assessments focus primarily on Quantitative Data. They include population demographics (e.g., education and income), tax rates, wage rates and other objective data on which business decisions can be made.

QUANLITATIVE METHOD: Qualitative factors include the underlying attitudes in a community, the way citizens feel about themselves and their community and how these feelings are interpreted into visual expressions of pride, cleanliness, friendliness, pro-business attitudes and can-do-spirit. DATA COLLECTION METHODS Cont... To minimize the chances of collecting incorrect information, it is suggested that multiple methods of qualitative Method can be used and the information collected by one method be verified through another method.
