What employment challenges do these youth face?

5 Learning about and Collaborating with other agencies  Youth often qualify for services from a variety of agencies.  There is a value of collaboration- shared information, avoid duplication of effort, share expertise, common message to the youth.  What are the possibilities?  What are the limitations?  Where are the natural interface opportunities  Is there a shared vision?  Can working together increase positive outcomes for the youth and the programs involved

8 Rules of Building a Collaboration  Identify Shared Concern  Identify potential partners  Identify forums / advisory groups, in existence in your community to join  Identify who has the skills, leadership and communication skills to lead  Examples

9 A Few Facts About Schools  Schools have a variety of goals for students.  Primary goals: Earn a diploma (or certificate), Prepare for college/career  Transition Mandates require assessment, goal setting, student engagement, inviting agencies and families  Not everyone with a disability is served in special education  Students are invited to the IEP, may not attend-or engage in the meeting  Occupational training is career-technical education, career pathways  Students may or may not discuss disability in the school environment  Outreach may be most effective by connecting with administration, or special education  Enrollment by Disability  Speech /Language Health/Physical Sensory IDD/DD Learning Disability Autism Social  6914 23,786 4534 22,128 114,601 14,368 13,073  3% 12% 2% 11% 57% 6% 7%
