3 Answers Recruitment – attracting people to apply for a job vacancy Part time workers – working for a proportion of the full working week eg (18 hours) Full time workers – working for the normal full working week (37 hours) Internal Recruitment –appointing an existing employee of the business to fill a vacancy External Recruitment – appointing an employee of another business to fill a vacancy

4 Why do we recruit? Think about; Why might a business need to recruit new staff? Why might a vacancy arise in a business?

5 Why do we recruit (Answers)? The two most likely reasons that a business may need to recruit are: 1.When the business expands 2.When an existing worker leaves or is dismissed

9 Step 1 - Job Description The business needs to decide what kind of work they want the employee to do A written description of the job Formal title of the job Purpose of the job Main duties Occasional duties Who the job holder reports to Is the job holder responsible for other staff Performance targets

11 Step 2 – Person Specification The business needs to decide what kind of person they are looking for Qualifications Experience / skills Personal qualities Can be divided into essential (must have) criteria and desirable (candidate should have) criteria

13 Step 3 – Advertise the Job Where the business advertises will depend on the type of worker (internal, external, skilled, unskilled) The job advert needs to include: Job title What the job involves Pay Hours Where the job is Company name How to apply

14 Step 4 – Shortlist Candidates Deciding on the best few people to interview It could be decided by: The strength of personal recommendations The details given on the application form Past experience, skills and qualifications of the applicants (found on CV)

15 Step 5 - Interviews It is a very common way of selecting workers. Some of the most popular interview questions include: Why do you want to work for this business? What do you think you can offer this business? What do you think are your greatest strengths? What do you think are your weaknesses? Are you a team player? Give us an example of how? If you were an animal, which one would you be?
