1 MUSIC at WOODLAND With Mrs. Fuller and Miss Bridges

2 Why should you participate in music? Mrs. Fuller and Miss Bridges want you to be involved in music! You can make so many friends and learn so much. Choir and Band are like teams. We are all important, and we all have to work together towards common goals. Music is cross-curricular. It is a mix of math, history, physical education, literature, languages, and art. It is one of the most basic forms of human expression. Music can create change in society. It can make people feel a wide range of emotions. Last but not least…do music classes because they are fun!

3 Why Join Band? You get to learn an instrument! Too cool! You learn how to read music: basically a whole new language. If you are interested in both choir and band, you could do band as a 6 th grader and then do both in 7 th grade. We will be learning a lot of the same things (note and rhythm reading, for example) in both classes. If you stick with band, you have marching band, solo opportunities, and even field trips to look forward to in high school.

4 Why Sing in Chorus? You like to sing, and you want to be an even better singer. You don’t have to sing solo in front of people…but you can if you want to! You enjoy music in general and want to understand it better. You don’t have to sit at a desk in choir! You’re allowed to use your voice! Choir breaks stereotypes. Everyone is welcome. Choir helps strengthen your voice, especially during vocal changes (I’m talking to you, gentlemen.)
