1 Precalculus Section 2.5 Approximate real roots of polynomials using graphing calculators Note: The solution to x 2 + 2x – 8 = 0 is found by (x+4)(x-2) =0, x = -4 and x = 2. The roots are the x intercepts of y = x 2 + 2x – 8. To find the real roots of a polynomial, graph the polynomial function and find its x intercepts.

2 Solve x 3 – 3x + 1 = 0

3 Solve x 3 – x 2 – 5x + 2 = 0

4 Solve x 4 – 2x 3 – 7x 2 + 10x + 10 = 0 Solve using the polynomial tools function. Use scratchpad, calculate, menu, algebra, polynomial tools, find roots, enter degree, type of roots, and coefficients.
