2 The Goals for this Module are:  To become familiar with the in which a Professional Learning Community supports communication, collaboration and professional development within a school.  To review several terms that are common in conversation regarding planning for technology integration. 3  To become aware of how to develop a BLOG as part of a savvy school leader’s ability to create a professional learning community.  To see how and effective school web site and further expand on a learning community Module 33

10 The Professional Learning Community Creating a professional learning Community Before any initiative for school improvement can have a chance at being accepted and maintained over the long run, there must be the presence of a professional learning community present in that school. Module 310

14 Creating and Sharing of Knowledge The savvy school leader creates a structure for the sharing of knowledge Notable author Roland Barth, in his article “ Improving Relationships in the School House” has suggested that one of the components for a collegial relationship in a school is the Sharing of Craft Knowledge Module 314

15 The cultural change principal creates a structure for the sharing of knowledge Notable author, Michael Fullan, in his article “ The Cultural Change Leader”, suggests That one of the essential components that characterize the Cultural Change Principal is – “Knowledge Creation and Sharing”. 16 A savvy school leader knows how to use technology to promote the sharing of craft knowledge and trade practices  Michael Fullan in his article “ The Change Leader ” believes that the school principal is positioned to bring about a “reculturing” of his or her school.  A schools culture is the hardest thing to change because the adults responsible for change are the very individuals who produced the current culture. 17 According to Michael Fullan : The Cultural Change Principal is the lead teacher in a school and models knowledge creation and sharing by:  Sharing what he or she has read and/or experienced lately.  Engaging in and encouraging action research.  Implementing inquiry groups among staff.  Knowledge creation and sharing fuels moral purpose in schools. 19 Technology & the Professional Learning Community (PLC )  Technology can be used to support the savvy school leader in the creation and sharing of knowledge. Module 319

20  Technology can be used to create and share knowledge:  Schools must foster knowledge giving as well as knowledge seeking.  A norm of sharing one’s knowledge with others is the key to continual growth. Module 320

21  The savvy school leader uses blog technology to create and share knowledge  Blogs are form of technology that can be used by the savvy school leader to:  Promote a communication  Enhance the sharing knowledge  Create a Professional Learning Community Module 321

22 Technology – PLC’s and Blogs:  What is a blog? web log  Blend of the term web log  Personal journal published on the World Wide Web  Entries appear in reverse chronological order  Can be entries of individuals or groups of individuals  Can also be used for outreach, sharing of opinions, political tools and ministry Module 322

23 How do you create a BLOG The follow information will provide the necessary direction to create your very own Personal Journal (BLOG):  Open your desk top computers  Log On to the Web: in the address box type the following: http://www.blogger.com/start  Follow the directions on To Create a Blog:  Select the “Create Your Blog Now” arrow  Pick a username and password  Continue through the screens, completing the form information  Choose a template for your blog  Select the Continue button to create a blog  Start posting! 24 Reflection As you create your own blog, reflect on the potential of this experience and the way that the blog can be used by the savvy school leader to enhance the development of a quality PLC. Module 324

26  At the completion of this module it is expected that the Module 3 Atlantic Beach Elementary School PLC members will: - Post an abstract of their technology model. - Comment on the abstracts of all your class members. - E-mail the technology paper to the instructor for review and grading. 27 The members of Module 3 PLC Atlantic Beach Elementary School, will be posting their abstracts. Each class member is expected to post their comment for each abstract posted. The comment is to answer the following reflection question: Explain how do you see that this technology model will improve or enhance student achievement in your school or business. Module 327
