4 4 Higher Education Functions in California University California  UC is the primary Academic Research Institution  UC is responsible for Degrees in Medicine, Law, Dentistry & Veterinary Medicine  UC has exclusive jurisdiction for Doctoral Degrees (2 exceptions) California State University  CSU is the primary Undergraduate Education Provider  CSU has jurisdiction for Bachelor and Master Degrees  CSU provides Lower and Upper Division Coursework  CSU provides Educational Doctorates on (2) Campuses Community College of California  CCC provides Academic and Vocational Instruction  CCC provides Lower Division Coursework and Certificated Programs  CCC provides Remedial Instruction, ESL Courses, Noncredit Instruction, Community Service Courses and Workforce Training Services

5 5 Higher Education Governing Boards UC -- UC Regents CSU -- CSU Board of Trustees CCC -- Board of Governors Higher Education Coordination Agency The California Postsecondary Education Commission (CPEC)  Coordinates additional campuses and new academic offerings among various segments of Higher Education

6 6 Higher Education Campus Growth Since 1960 UC added 4 new schools: (10) Universities CSU added 10 new schools: (23) Colleges CCC added 49 new schools: (112) Colleges Higher Education Enrollment Growth UC has 172,774 enrolled students CSU has 316,370 enrolled students CCC has 2,897,531 enrolled students

7 7 AFFORDABILITY & FEES UC Fees are currently $9,258 per year for Undergraduates CSU Fees are currently $4,827 per year for Undergraduates. CCC Fees are currently $780 per year for Undergraduates
