3 The prevalence of obesity in the United States has been on the rise steadily for the past two decades and is at high levels. In addition to population wide trends, it is clear that obesity affects some groups more than others and can be associated with age, income, disability, education, gender, race and ethnicity and geographic region.

4 CHILDHOOD OBESITY Childhood obesity amongst minorities is a serious problem in the United States. Despite the recent declines in the prevalence among preschool aged children, obesity among children is still too high. Childhood obesity in the united states has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years.(cdc 2015)

5 SOCIAL ECOLOGICAL MODEL The social ecological model is a theoretical framework for understanding the factors that influence health and wellness at varying levels surrounding individuals, groups, and populations. The social ecological model consists of 5 tiers. The tiers that make up the social ecological model is: tier 1 the individual, tier 2 the interpersonal, tier 3 institutions and organizations and tier 4 is community and the 5 th and final tier is structures, policies, and systems.(cdc.com)

6 THE FIRST LADY’S HEALTH PROMOTION PROGRAM "LETS MOVE!” One of the more popular health promotion campaigns is spear headed by the first lady “Let’s Move!” has enacted some clear helpful tips and step-by-step strategies for families, schools and communities to help kids be more active, eat better and grow up healthy. Take Action Make Healthy food choices Get Active Join the cause

7 CHANGE 30 Change 30 targets communities of the African American and Latino diaspora, there are some clear issues that need to be addressed in both communities. According to the state of obesity in the African American and Latino community they are experiencing disparate access to affordable healthy food and safe places to be physically active for 30min a day there by contributing to higher rates of obesity and related illnesses in these communities. In addition to the issues that revolve around high rates of hunger and food insecurity, Latino’s often experience inequities in access to healthcare. (State of obesity 2014) reverse a 30yr steady increase 30 new food choices in 30 days 30 min of physical activity for 30 days

8 CONCLUSION In Conclusion, Childhood obesity is disturbing as the extra pounds often start children on the course to health problems that were once confined to adults, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The prevalence of childhood obesity can be decreased and or prevented with the induction of these health behavior changes which include but are not limited to healthy eating and increased physical activity. September is national childhood obesity awareness month join the fight.
