2 An unprecedented investment programme that has to be delivered against the forecast of increasing population, thought to rise to 76 million by 2047 in the UK, and a projected 43% increase in traffic. This is the challenge we face - and we must ensure that the investment programme in our roads and utilities is delivered to time, budget and with minimum disruption. Utilities and Authorities face a challenge...

3 We have to continue to find ways of safely and effectively minimising road occupation by: Increased co-ordination and co-operation in the planning and delivery of major road and street works Innovation and the importance of actively embracing and enabling new ways of working Changing behaviours which accelerate the actions needed to the move to a collaborative and incentive based approach Providing clarity in the cost to the local and national community of our failure to change BUT – this does not mean driving down durations to an unreasonable and unsafe level

4 Supporting the UK, Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish governments in their various reviews of road and street works legislation SROH & Inspections Reviews Training and Accreditation Reduction in unattended sites at weekends/non-working days on the busiest roads (7 day working) Ecorys Lane Rental Report - outcomes Welsh Street Works Strategy Consultation / Supporting Welsh HAUC in delivery of its outcomes Review of the Scottish Roads Commissioner Role UK Implementation of the Reducing Costs of Rolling out High Speed Broadband Directive AND seeking to achieve greater consistency and parity – where appropriate Promoting best practice and innovation Supporting beacon collaboration projects – such as Ebbsfleet or Manchester City Promoting Good Principles and Examples of Collaboration and Communication Delivering interesting events and case studies for the road and street works sector Evolving HAUC(UK) What do road / street works look like in 10 years time? How do we fill the skills and resources gap? With HAUC England – what does HAUC(UK) need to become to address the challenges UK faces in the future The focus going into 2016
