SFU has a long history of cheating the fund First they took $150,000 out of the fund - we grieved and got it put back Then they used a formula that they took more from the fund - we grieved and $310,000 put back Almost no TSSU members were able to get money out of the fund due to hidden criteria set by SFU

New fund Overview We successfully bargained for a fund where TSSU members control the terms of reference and disbursement SFU collects the information, forwards us a spreadsheet, then we send it back with amounts Timeline May 29: application deadline June 3: SFU sends us the spreadsheet June 17: TSSU sends back spreadsheet July 1: deadline for SFU to disburse money

Disbursement SFU Student: money comes as a bursary (non-taxable) Processed by student services through the http://go.sfu.ca system non-SFU student: money is taxable processed by payroll through the http://myinfo.sfu.ca system money will go to the account you have registered Students who have never received a scholarship or bursary may need to submit banking info.

Late applications are possible (1 semester late only) use the same system application won't be considered until the next semester you can apply again for the next semester you may get 2 awards disbursed at once

Review process As part of the terms of reference, the membership decided to have the fund run for 2 semesters or $250,000 of disbursements (whichever comes first), and then re-evaluate Biggest concern is what to do when the surplus ($500,000) runs out. Everyone should still apply, we want to get an accurate gauge for demand so we can bargain in 2019.

YES. we control the disbursement now and we're confident we've fixed many of the problems I don't have direct childcare expenses or receipts, am I eligible? YES. As an example, we know many of our members or their partners choose to forgo wages because of the high cost of childcare. There is no need for receipts.

At the membership meeting for the terms of reference this issue was discussed. Members decided the spirit was not to judge people without knowledge of their situation. Both parents are eligible. Will evidence of children be asked for in the application? NO. The application form does not require you to upload evidence of your children. It relies on self-reporting. However, there will be a spot-check verification process that occurs after the disbursement. You should ensure you have a birth certificate, passport, notarized letter or equivalent for your children.

At the membership meeting for the terms of reference this issue was discussed. Members decided the spirit was not to judge people without knowledge of their situation. You are eligible. Could TSSU organize their own daycare progam for members? There are no plans to do this at the current time, as there are considerable organizational difficulties involved.

The TSSU childcare working group will then decide on how the funds are to be disbursed. What confirmation will I receive that I have submitted an application? You will not receive an email stating you have submitted an application, but if you return to the application page after you have completed the process, it will show you there if your application has been received.

Could it be used to fund members’ childcare costs in earlier semesters? If there is leftover money, it will stay in the fund. The contract language detailing the use of the fund does not enable it to be disbursed for childcare costs prior to the 2016 summer semester. What if I come up with another question?
