1 Year 2 Maths meeting

2 We just want to reassure you that Singapore maths isn’t as frightening as it may look. The methods used will be like the ones we learned in school and they should be as easy as possible.

3 Principles of the New Curriculum The national curriculum for mathematics aims to ensure that all pupils: become fluent in mathematics develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety or routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions

Odd one out: Prior learning: Ask me:

30 I understand that you wish to help your child but we urge you not to buy the Singapore Maths books. The teachers will teach the set curriculum in the manner and pace they think is best for the class. We want your child to learn whilst they are at school, to learn new methods and apply these to problems given to them by the teacher. If you have already done the same problems with them then no new learning is taking place. They may also come unstuck when tackling a new problem independently. You now have your methods and can see examples of how your child is being taught. Below are some excellent websites to visit to help your child apply the skills taught in the classroom: Singapore Maths paper year 2 - https://raffles.guru/singapore-math/primary-2/https://raffles.guru/singapore-math/primary-2/ SATS 2016 sample questions - http://www.satspapers.org.uk/SATs_Papers/KS1_Maths/Maths_Sample_2016/2014_KS1_mathe matics_sample_materials.pdf http://www.satspapers.org.uk/SATs_Papers/KS1_Maths/Maths_Sample_2016/2014_KS1_mathe matics_sample_materials.pdf
