Some of the Challenges Facing Electricity Companies 1- The Loss USA : 6.38%China : 6.67% Japan : 6.86% D.T. Meter Distribution Transformer (D.T.) Customer meter2 Customer meter 1 Customer meter 3 Customer meter4  Loss rate reached around 11.7% during fiscal year 2014/2013  If the loss is improved by 1%, this will saving 1626 GWH a year (around 486 million Egyptian pounds)  The root causes of loss:  Technical loss: in electricity lines and transformers  Non-technical loss: Theft and erroneous meters reading (inaccurate readings, time difference) Loss Rates in Some Countries

 The annual increase in the maximum load, which amounted to 28 thousand MW in 2015/2014  The maximum load can be reduced if some loads are moved by applying different tariffs such as Time of use tariff (TOU) or Critical peak price (CPP)  Specifying the allocated power for each subscriber based on the contractual power 2- Higher Maximum Loads Annual Load Development Some of the Challenges Facing Electricity Companies

Meter reading start Meter reading finished Day 1 Day20 Statistics & calculation Day 25 Sending bills & payment Day 45 3- Collection Cycle  Delayed collection cycle due to increased time of reading, manual registration of readings and billing  The time between the meter reading and billing will be reduced by the process automation and ending the problems of doing the job manually (meters' readings, data recording and verifying accuracy) in about 45 Days Some of the Challenges Facing Electricity Companies

3 3 The Electricity Sector Plan

A consultancy office prepared a feasibility study of smart meters in 2013 The electricity sector plan and the measures taken by the Holding Company to implement the project of smart meters Egypt Electricity Holding Company aims to replace all meters to smart meters for transition to smart grids Some companies of expertise submitted technical, financial and funding offers for the implementation of the smart meters projects in all zones of distribution companies

A global office approached to provide consultancy services for supplying, installing and operating the smart meters system of 10 million smart meters to be used in all distribution companies and preparing the book of the conditions and required specifications and laying down the foundations and rules of analysis of technical and financial bids for the project implementation The plan for installation of smart meters in all electricity distribution companies The plan for installation of smart meters in all electricity distribution companies The consultancy developed an action plan for the project implementation phases

A public tender forwarded in the two-envelope system for the supply, installation and operation of three million smart meters in areas of the companies of (Northern Cairo - Southern Cairo - Canal) for electricity distribution as a first stage based on the bid requirements and technical specifications prepared by the consultancy firm A public tender made by the Holding Company for Egypt Electricity for the above project and the bid book of requirements and specifications was purchased by (25) companies so far
