An Adventure In Time Cultures of the Early Americas

Task You are the inventors who created a time machine to take you back in time. However, the major backer of your invention is full-blooded Native American. He has required you to visit and live with the different Native American cultures and bring back a journal of daily life in the different cultures before he will give you more money for your next project. He wants to know about all of the different aspects of their culture. You must have at least 5 daily entries that describe at least one aspect of their culture. Also, you must bring back a picture you created depicting life in the tribe. Then come back together as a group and create a presentation of how the cultures are alike and different.

Process : Step 1 ◊Each person in your group is to select one of the following cultures to visit. Eastern Woodlands -- This culture consisted of Native American tribes inhabiting the eastern United States and Canada Plains — This culture consisted of Native American tribes inhabiting the area from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and from Canada to Mexico. Great Basin — This culture consisted of Native American tribes inhabiting the area from all of Nevada and Utah, most of western Colorado, portions of southern Oregon, Idaho, and Wyoming, as well as southeastern California, and portions of northern Arizona and New Mexico. Southwestern -- This culture consisted of Native American tribes inhabiting the area from across present-day Arizona, New Mexico, northern Mexico, southern Utah, southern Colorado, and parts of Nevada. ◊Each person in your group is to select one of the following cultures to visit. 4 Process: Step 2 ◊Once each group member has selected a culture to visit, you are to go back in time using the following sites. As you visit the culture, the backer has created a Culture Elements sheet that will help you keep track of the information you need to give to him on your return. Complete the sheet and use it to help you create your journal.

Process: Step 3 ◊Once you have visited your culture, use Microsoft Word to create your journal. Your journal needs to be at least one paragraph for each day and each must describe one aspect of your culture.

Process: Step 4 ◊After completing your journal create a picture using KidPix of daily life in the culture you visited. The picture should show what type of houses they lived in, what kind of clothes they wore, and what the area looked like.

Process: Step 5 ◊After each member has completed their journal and daily life pictures, come back together as a group and decide how you want to present how your cultures were alike and different to your backer.

Process: Step 6 ◊Present your journals, pictures and compare and contrast to the backer.
